Privacy Policy — Hush Money

Last updated: 1 September 2026

Hush Money is a browser extension that tracks prices on products you choose, and notifies you when the price drops. This policy explains how Hush Money uses your data.

Summary

What Hush Money does

When you choose to track a product, Hush Money stores the following locally in your browser (using the browser's built-in storage — never sent to us or any third party):

This data stays on your device. It is not uploaded to any server we operate, because we don't operate one. It is also not synced across your devices by Chrome or Brave's built-in sync — Hush Money stores data in a way that's specific to the device you're using, so your tracked items and price history stay only on that device.

Direct retailer communications

To check for price updates, Hush Money loads the product pages you've chosen to track, the same way visiting them yourself would. These requests go directly from your device to the retailer's own servers — not through any server or proxy we operate — so the retailer sees the request the same way they'd see any other visitor to that page. Hush Money doesn't add any tracking or identifying information to these requests beyond what a normal page visit already involves.

Data deletion

All tracked data is stored locally in your browser. You can remove individual tracked items at any time from within the extension. Uninstalling Hush Money, or clearing the extension's stored browser data, permanently deletes all tracked items and price history — there's nothing kept anywhere else to delete.

What Hush Money does not do

Gmail integration (optional)

If you choose to connect Gmail to receive price drop emails, Hush Money requests permission to send email on your behalf via Google's API. This permission is used solely to deliver price digest emails that you have configured. Hush Money does not have access to your inbox or existing emails, and cannot read, search, or receive messages. You can disconnect this at any time from the extension's settings, which revokes the permission immediately.

On Chrome, this connection is handled entirely by your browser's built-in Google account integration and never touches any server we operate. On other Chromium-based browsers (such as Brave), a small stateless relay server facilitates the Gmail connection handshake to securely exchange authentication tokens. This relay operates entirely in memory, does not log or store any data, and has no access to your tracked items, price history, or email content.

Hush Money's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Permissions

To support tracking prices on any online store you choose — rather than a fixed list of partner retailers — Hush Money requests access to the pages you visit, so its content script can detect and read price information on a page once you ask it to track that page. Hush Money does not collect, transmit, or retain any data from pages you have not added to your watch list, and does not monitor or log your general browsing activity.

Hush Money also requests permissions for local storage (to save your tracked items), scheduled background checks (to look for price changes periodically), and notifications (to alert you to a price drop).
